Supply ancillary communications between Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office facilities
Establish and maintain communications with other public safety, utility and disaster service organizations
Provide an alternate means for the timely reporting of hazardous or emergency situations from the public to the Hillsborough County Communications Center via amateur radio
STARC Members are civilians and employees of various Hillsborough County Government agencies, Verizon Telephone, Tampa Electric, St. Joseph's Hospital,
Tampa Police Department, and other public and private agencies. In the event of a disaster, radio operators will provide communications between participating
agencies if normal means of communications are lost. Special two-way amateur radio equipment is installed in all major facilities of the Sheriff's Office to
provide for this capability.
STARC Volunteers are required to undergo a background investigation by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Effective February 28, 2011 all volunteers are expected
and required to contribute a minimum of 9 (nine) hours every 3 (three) months, attend 2 (two) meetings per calendar year. 1 (one) meeting from January to June and 1 (one) meeting from July to December not
including the holiday meeting.
You are required to purchase your own uniform shirt, pants and Amateur Radio communications equipment.
